At La Jolla Shores, the old truck sits under a wash of neon purple from a nearby café sign, its two surfboards casting long, strange shadows in the dark. The air still holds the warmth of the day, mixed with a faint salt haze that hasn’t let go since sunset. The street is quiet except for the distant hum of the ocean and the low buzz of the sign flickering above. The surfers who drove it here are a few blocks away now, enjoying late-night tacos, sand still clinging to their feet, the night stretching out in no rush to end.
